As a blogger, I chose to learn about Pinterest quickly.
It was on top of my list to learn among the many other things a new blogger would need to learn about.
Many of us bloggers have researched or have at least been intrigued to research more about how to use Pinterest for our blogs. The are many Pins out there over using titles such as “Pinterest has changed my life”, which honestly makes us want to learn more.
Pinterest is the best marketing tool for bloggers.
It is known as the best traffic lead to a bloggers site because of these few known facts:
- Pinterest has a consistent 111% active member growth each month and is known to be as the fastest growing social media with members.
-
More than 80% of Pins are Repins which means a pinned post had a higher chance of going viral, especially since average time for a Pin to last on Pinterest is months, not hours or days, like Facebook or twitter.
-
88% Pinterest users purchased products they have pinned. More than 80% of Pinterest users will click on the products that is shown on a image which leads to a higher purchase rate than any other social media platform.
As for me; Pinterest brings in over 80% of my blog traffic every single month.
I had a Pinterest account for 2 years with 60 followers. The day I started blogging I took the Pinterest game pretty serious.
Within my first three months of blogging and implementing what I have learned from other bloggers that were willing to share their tips, I was up 500% growth in followers and 1200% page views.
Here are a few simple steps that began to dramatically change my Pinterest appearance and presence.
Profile:
I am going to try to keep this simple. First thing to do in regards of your Pinterest profile is to convert to a business account. By doing this, it confirms your website which makes it more trusted. Pinterest will automatically put your website link in your profile. You can convert your Pinterest account by going to Business.pinterest.com Next, choose 3-4 words that describes you and your blog. Create 3-4 sentences with those chosen verbs. Create one sentence that is a lead magnet. Why should they visit your blog? Freebie, sign ups, Tutorials, Webinars. What they can learn and gain from you?
Join Group Boards:
The important factor about joining groups is to participate in groups that is within your niche. Joining group boards with like minded people helps you get to your target audience. One of the best ways I have found group boards to join is to look at boards of bloggers that I follow in that same niche as me. Any of their boards that had the people icon on the right hand corner, I would click on, read the profile bio. If I like what the group board was represents, I follow the instructions of how to join. Not all creators post how to join. I have personally messaged the creator of a board that I want to join with a polite note requesting an invite to their board. I usually get a good response.
Make Your Boards Clean and Cohesive:
Doing this will show off your brand. The color scheme and titles of your boards will describe you, your blog, and what followers should expect from you. A few things you can do to achieve this is to change all your board covers to the same color scheme. To change your board cover in Pinterest, click on the board you wish to change, click edit (the pencil icon) on the left hand corner, the fourth tab down is to change cover. Choose a pin that will achieve the color scheme you desire.
Ideally, 25-30 boards is a good amount for a blogger to have. Each board title should consist key words (Pinterest is considered a search engine, keywords are important) and within your niche.
Your Blogs/Website board should be the first board in your profile. Most like to title the board “The best of…..” I personally have the board just titled my blogs name.
After implementing these 3 simple steps, please let me know if you have seen a change in your Pinterest presence. I would love to hear about it.
Bloggers, please share any other simple tips you have had success with. We would all love to learn more.

Love this! I have just recently started using Pinterest as I am reconstructing/reorganizing and revamping my website. I am doing a lot of things that I didn’t do before! One of them is taking Pinterest seriously, another thing I am doing is giving other bloggers the chance to be a contributor on our site, which I feel will really help our traffic and also help them get their work out there. One thing I do need more help with is how to monetize my website/blog. I am an Amazon affiliate and have had the pleasure of being a brand ambassador for a few places, but I am having trouble finding other affiliate “jobs” . I have tried places like Heartbeat and I never seem to get a Campaign. Do you know of any other affiliate type website that will help me to monetize my website/blog? Any and all advice is welcome!
If you prefer you can shoot me an email.
Thanks!

Thanks so much, Carmen! I don’t get much traffic from Pinterest, so maybe this will help me get that going! 🙂

Creating branded images is also a very good idea. Picking a few colours of your brand and using them consistently is key to building your brand online. I still need to work on my board covers. These are all great tips!

I need to work on the look of my boards. They are okay, I guess but could be better. I also had not thought about adding an incentive in my description for people to visit the blog, great idea! I’m changing that today!
