As a homeschooling mom, one of the benefits is being able to create a school day that fits the desires of your family values
while still meeting the curriculum standard of your residential state.
Choosing to homeschool was not exactly an easy choice but was definitely a choice that gave my husband and I peace.
As parents we hope to instill the traits and characteristics that require individual investment into our children.
To small things such as but not limited to:
- How to sew a button
- Manners and politeness
- To take time out of the day to do a act of kindness to a neighbor or local business
- Volunteering at a memory home
- How to cook and bake
- To individually take the time to help dissect a bug for science curriculum
- To travel more to see the things we learn about. National parks, Zoos, Monuments… etc.
These are our personal choices to do with our children.
No homeschool curriculum matches the other and no reason why you choose homeschooling matches to the other.
Homeschooling should never be used as a topic to discredit our teachers or devalue what they put into the communities daily.
I appreciate each teacher out there that pour their hearts into children.
My oldest two are still in public school so I am not a biased parent to public or homeschooling.
I am just a parent that is thankful for the teaching moments I gain from each perspective.
But one thing I have learned as a homeschooling household is the power we have in teaching our children daily to take the word of God as part of a schooling curriculum. I want to instill into my children the bible is part of our daily lives.
I do this by setting our bible reading and worship time as part of our homeschooling.
Just as important it is to share the pledge of allegiance to the flag for our nation in schools, we can teach our children the importance of the Ten Commandments and the Lord’s prayer in homeschooling.
As Christians, living the word is our daily life.
As citizens in our community and growing minds, learning how to study, mature, and develop good life skills in the world is also part of our daily life.
So, be the homeschool mom that does both.
Equip your child with the power of both!
During our homeschooling time, I choose to be the one to read aloud the scripture to my kids. I feel accountable to this task and it helps me stay consistent with reading my bible just as much but let’s be honest, my kids can get a little bored with me if I am not putting that extra umph into it.
So I try to get creative in ways that can be exciting to them to learn scripture and worship songs. My goal is to look for encouraging and uplifting music for their age group.
Recently I listened to a playlist from Seeds Family Worship.
I immediately sent the home link over to my sister. Their music and scripture reading is definitely not something to keep to yourself.
I just knew her children would fall in love with it too.
Best way to put it is; the music from Seeds Family Worship is upbeat and direct to the scripture. Which can be a bit hard to find. Most songs these days try to sound more secular to grab a child’s attention but Seeds have their own tune to it with feeling like our children are getting clean Christian music.
The music is created according to specific verses.
I know many childrens worship songs try to do this but this one struck me stronger than most.
Each song begins with the specific location of the scripture the song is based off of.
The music has made my children dance and sing out loud.
Ahhh…. The sound of your children singing scripture aloud in your home.
Excuse me for a moment as I praise the Lord for that!
I mean, seriously, that is some powerful stuff for your house!
This is biblical for us to be speaking the power of God out loud. Now you are training your kids to do it.
Add it into your daily life, your daily homeschooling, your prayer time with your kids….. However it may be done. Take the power of music with your young children to create an atmosphere that uplifts and encourages your children to be steadfast in the Lord.
How we add in our faith into our Homeschooling Schedule:
Open with prayer: I give my children one topic each for them to pray for specifically.
Read a bible story: I usually try to align this with what we are learning in Church so they can learn how to identify accordance in the spirit.
Read aloud the Ten commandments: I found a template online to print that was perfect for kindergarten age
Read the Fathers Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13): Also found a template perfect for my children’s ages.
Lastly, we also have worship time where I turn on a playlist for thirty to forty-five minutes at a time.
