Becoming a growing blogger is also becoming an expert in marketing your work and showcasing what you offer to readers. As a new blogger you will quickly begin to see how important social media can be to help your blog grow.
Creating an Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest account can build your appearance as a blogger in the big blogging atmosphere.
One thing each of these platforms have in common is the three to five seconds a person will take to look over your profile bio to see if they want to follow you and your blog.
This is the first area you will need to make an effort in to make a connection with potential readers and loyal followers. Create three to four sentences that describes who you are, what you do, and what you offer as a blogger/writer.
What topics will you be writing about?
Are you a parent, married, single, traveler, financial guru, ect….?
What the goal of your blog? To help them with your experiences, to accomplish a journey and encourage others to join you, to encourage women in their faith, ect….?
In a private Facebook Group for Christian Bloggers that I lead and in By His Grace We Blog eBook (and hardcopy on Amazon) for beginner bloggers; I express the importance of writing your profile and the about me page; how this can all affect how you brand yourself as a blogger.
Branding essentially comes down to how you present yourself. It’s about being authentic and true to who you are and what your vision is. Consistency in your writings, style, and creating your brand will show your readers what to expect.
Before creating a brand and an about me page (which will go hand in hand with one another), it would be beneficial to write answers to these questions:
-
What is your blog’s niche?
-
Who is your target audience?
-
What is the vision for your blog?
-
What is your blog’s mission statement?
-
How do you want to help your readers? What problems would you like to solve for them?
-
What do you see for yourself and your blog in a year from now?
Most importantly:
-
Do you feel comfortable sharing who you are with strangers?

Developing a loyal following is about building trust and being loyal to them. The best way you can do this is by being exactly who you are.
Do not take this as a corny cliché’ but instead take it as insight. Majority of veteran bloggers will recommend this due to experience.
As a Christian Blogger it is very important for me to share with my readers in the three to four seconds I have to share with them that I am a Christian and my blog is a Christian based blog because that is my target audience.
It is who I hope to speak to through my writings. By letting them know immediately I am a Christian, I am letting them know what to expect from me and my blog.
To eliminate doing this with your readers, here are a few things you could add to your ‘About Me’ page on your blog... #writer Share on XToo many times I have visited blogs that had an About Me page or social media profile that did not match to what their blog was about. I felt mislead and as if I just visited a site that didn’t know the direction of their own blog yet. Needless to say, it was not a blog that I bookmarked to go back to.
To eliminate doing that with your readers, here are a few things you could add to your ‘About Me’ page on your blog:
- A professional picture that shows your personality.
- A paragraph of what your blog is about and what they should expect. Keep your audience in mind when writing this. You want them to know the blog is for them and you have their best interest at heart.
- A paragraph of who you are. What’s your story? What inspired you to create your blog? What is the vision for yourself and the blog?
- A paragraph about your faith. As a Christian Blogger, this is where you share your passion about being a follower of Christ. This is important for your readers to know about you as they visit your ‘About Me’ page to try to get to know you more. You want them to get to know you as a Christian because it is part of who you are, which is what will be part of creating your brand.
- Lastly, let them know how they can stay connected with you. Share your social media links and explain how they can become a subscriber to your blog.
On a blog, the ‘About Me’ page is generally found on a tab of its own. As your blog grows, it will become a top visited page on your site.
If you have not yet created an ‘About Me’ page or think it may need to be revised, I highly recommend doing this immediately.
Your ‘About Me’ page contribute to bringing in loyal readers; that is why it’s so important to write about your faith on your ‘About Me’ page. You will be able to develop the loyal readers you hope for because now when they follow you it will be because they have or desire the same faith as you, which will develop a relationship between you and them.
If you feel like you may lose some readers by sharing your faith then you will only be losing readers that does not have the same interest as you. Ultimately, if it is not that reason then it will be a different reason.
The bible even tells us in John 1:5, Darkness does not comprehend light.
After working on your ‘About Me’ page, you will want to create your social media profile similar. Making them cohesive is part of creating a brand.
Just as I mentioned in the beginning, most social media profiles will only give you enough space for three to four sentences to describe who you are. You will need to grab the audience’s attention and hearts within seconds.
Here is an idea of the character length for a few common social media platforms:
Instagram gives you 150 characters
Pinterest gives you 160 characters
Twitter gives you 160 characters
Facebook gives you about 200 characters for your about me section, up to 500 for a business page.

Depending on the length of words you are able to use, each platform will differ. However they should all be similar. Use different wording if needed to shorten sentences from one profile to the next.
Here are 4 tips I would give as one Christian Blogger to another... #writingtips #Christianwriter Share on XHere are 4 tips I would give as one Christian blogger to another…
- A word that describes who you are: Blogger, Writer, Blogger, A Creative, Author, Shop owner.……
- Share your Faith: Christian Blogger/Writer (this will help you save some space). Saved by His Grace, Jesus Follower, Disciple, Lover of Christ, Faith Writer, – or anything else that shows your faith…..
- Who is your target audience. Describing who you are will help reach the people your blog is for. For example if it’s a mom blog, add: Mommy of 5, Mom of Boys, Mom of Girls. Describe you and your blog within 3-5 verbs.
- Lastly, show them why they should visit your blog. “Visit the blog here to download your freebie.” Visit the blog for more posts on …..” Learn how to create ….. Here.” If you have a business account for each of the social media platform, be sure to leave a direct link to your blog or shop.
Always remember you are a leader as a blogger of your own site. As a leader; what message, brand, and impression do you want to give to potential readers? How do you want to be known?
Write it down and go back to it every time you need encouragement throughout your blogging journey.

Yeah! Writing “about me” as a blogger is very important. Some people will check first whose the owner of the article before they will continue on reading. Surely this article is very helpful for those who just started blogging.

Great information. As you said, we have very small window of time to draw the readers in so we need to make our message clear.
