It’s a new year which for many, means new goals to create a new you.
Exercise more, travel more, try new things, or cutting out junk food and coffee are usually the common New Years resolutions. But in addition, for most Christians the number one goal for the new year is to memorize scripture. This is a very common goal we all want to achieve. We know by reading our word and memorizing it will lead us closer to our Father in heaven.
Memorizing scripture is not just about being able to say it out loud without any help, but instead they become words written on the tablet of our hearts that is full of truth and life. Having the words on our hearts leads us to growth spiritually. It takes us into a new level of spiritual understanding and wisdom.
As a mom of five, I am always striving to take time to read the bible and sadly three out of fives times that I walk into my prayer room I instantly get called by one of the kids which then leads the baby to wake up from the yelling of, “Mom, where are you? I need you!”
One of the greatest pieces of advice I have been given is to write verses on 3×5 index cards and take them with me where ever I go or tape them to a place you will look at everyday. If you look at my bathroom in my home, you will see numerous index cards with scriptures taped to the mirror so that I can read them everyday. The awesome part of this is that you will also see index cards taped up next to those verses of revelations that I have received through memorizing those verses. It has been a blessing hearing from the Lord through learning His word.
This is why I just had to share Laura’s post about memorizing scriptures and even better……she shares her list of scriptures for 2018 and what she uses to memorize them.
Here is Laura’s post featuring on Salt & Light Link Up…
The year 2018 is here, and I’m so excited! I love a fresh start, setting goals, and looking ahead. (I’m a hopeless optimistic.) If your 2017 wasn’t as great as you hoped it would be, I understand.
This year, one of my personal goals is to memorize scripture. There’s just one little problem: There is already so much floating around in this mom-brain that I don’t usually do this in spite of good intentions. The most I did in 2017 was memorize one lonely little verse.
So I’m starting slow and being a lot more intentional. My wonderful planner happens to have space set aside for a verse of the month. This year, I want to intentionally fill out those spaces with the verse I’m focusing on.
I didn’t succeed in memorizing verses for a couple of reasons: I didn’t have a plan, and I didn’t particularly enjoy the process. I decided to stop that nonsense this year. First, I chose twelve awesome verses that I’m particularly drawn to and I think you’ll love. They are encouraging and a bit convicting as well. Then, I designed note cards that I can use around the house and in my planner to make it that much more fun. Let’s face it: if it’s pretty, I’m going to enjoy it a LOT more. Now I have the extra motivation I need to meditate on and memorize a specific verse every month this year.

There are definite fruits to memorization! The more I read God’s Word over and over His Truth becomes part of my soul. That’s how I memorize. 🙂
