Scriptures to read when facing Spiritual Warfare
If I could say anything to anyone about the topic of Spiritual Warfare, I think I would tell them something to the lines of:
“Do not be ashamed of facing Spiritual Warfare.”
“You are not alone.”
“Spiritual Warfare is part of our faith, it is not something to be hidden in our spiritual walk.”
I personally believe the two main components of why some people don’t recognize when they are in spiritual warfare is because:
- Little knowledge of the topic.
- Not something they are willing to admit they are battling.
Explaining it as, we are just having a bad day, bad week, or a hard season can feel easier to say then to be ready to fight in Spiritual Warfare.
Because truth is; once there is recognition of what we are facing is said out loud and affirmed with God, it means we will need to take place on the battlefield.
Taking our place in Spiritual Warfare is not just putting on the armor of God (Ephesians 8:6-10). It takes diligent work.
It’s taking full instruction and completing it effectively step by step.
Truthfully, this can be the hardest part of conquering Spiritual Warfare.
First we have to come to the fact that we are facing Spiritual Warfare.
Then we adjust ourselves so we may wholeheartedly put on the armor.
We seek after God for instruction.
Then we must conduct every step in full faith. Not allowing fear to take over but to stand with full confidence that we are capable to fight.
I mean, think about it…..that is hard.
We are not talking about sitting down, listening to an experienced person that has advice to freely give us about our difficulties then to take time to make a nonchalant decision.
No, we are speaking of battles that is not of the natural! Time is of the essence in warfare. We are to seek for wisdom from God, chose immediately to put full trust in Him. Be fully receptive to completing every tedious thing He tells us to do.
This may include us sitting still even when we may feel like we are full force ready to punch the devil in the face.
Our war may be of us just sitting still.
Let’s think about this for a moment. When you are having troublesome coming at you from the north to the south, from the east to the west and the day finally comes when you are just bluntly fed up with it. Your inner spirit and natural flesh wants to charge at the devil and just be done with it but God….
But God whispers, “Be Still.”
Do you have enough in you to fight like this?
Do you have enough in you to fight with praise instead of temper?
Do you have enough in you to fight with peace even though the courage in you is flaming like a forest fire?
Do you have enough trust in God to know the key to defeat is not always attack?
This is all part of Spiritual Warfare.
How?
Because God says so.
Do you have enough trust in God to know the key to defeat is not always attack? This is all part of Spiritual Warfare. Share on XThe bible is full of stories that speak of battles, of war zones, of soldiers in the natural and in the spiritual, and of how to let praise go first. (2 Chronicles 20)
His word is constant with teaching us how to war.
Sometimes that includes us going out to fight physically and other times it’s of us sitting still in His presence as He defeats the war for us.
We have to learn to look deeper than just a physical battle.
The stories in the bible about war is not just a story of how Joshua and His people physically watched a six foot thick, almost 30 ft high wall come tumbling down by the sound of a trumpet.
Nope, it was about an army following instructions.
It was about how God called that ground holy ground to Joshua just verses before and told him to win back the territory by the sound of His voice.
You think all those priest (which of whom back then were treated with the most high respect), wanted to circle more than a half mile long wall seven times every night for seven days with carrying their garments and ark?
You think every woman and man truly believed in Joshua at first or that praising God for a battle before even fighting seemed reasonable to them?
Probably not, but the reverence for a prophet was out of obedience and the obedience allowed them to see a supernatural act tear down a wall that not even if a thousand men with a fierce demeanor charged at it, would ever be able to tear down.
We have to stop seeing Spiritual War as just a demon possessed situation. Do those exist? Absolutely!
But you know what is a top reason that causes that to become….
Disobedience to the instruction of the Lord.
The battles are won over and over by the enemy each time disobedience takes place. It allows the enemy to get closer and closer, to the point that now you are no longer looking at battles to conquer but now you are in a war right in the middle of a flaming fire that is ready to consume you.
I will never sit here and type words out to you proclaiming I know every bit of battle, how precisely spiritual warfare happens, or even confess that I am a perfect Christian. News flash, no one is but as an ambassador for Christ, just as YOU are, as a woman or man of God, it is our responsibility to speak of God’s truth and to obey his leading in every writing, teaching, and speaking He gives unto us.
In my spirit, I know God is telling me we are facing war. We are facing it more than we have before and even more than the last time we thought were facing it hard.
According to God’s word, that is what to come.
It will not get easier physically but it can get easier for us spiritually….. Not better….. But easier by doing it with Him.

Here’s why…
Knowledge gives us understanding, Understanding surpasses knowledge and gives us wisdom.
Wisdom leads us through experience and experience gives us endurance.
Endurance builds us up with walking through in peace and confidence.
Gain knowledge of what Spiritual Warfare is.
This is so important to being able to recognize it; sometimes even before it is about to come towards you.
When you are so in tune with God’s leading, there will be times the Lord may unction you to start praying before the storm comes. Those prayers may even be able to prevent things from happening because of Your obedience to His voice.
Gaining knowledge in this area will also teach you how to battle, give you a better understanding when and how God is speaking to you, and most of all….
Knowledge will teach you how to conquer.
Best way to gain knowledge and understanding is to:
-Study your Bible
-Prayer
-Communion with God through fasting
-And reading. Pick up some books that will encourage you to grow in this area.
A few books at the top of my mind right now that I have personally read and I would recommend to you:
- The Armor of God – Priscilla Schirer
- Purpose of Prayer – Dr. Myles Munroe
- Lead me, Holy Spirit – Stormie OMartian
- Any thing from Frank Perreti, the best selling fictional Christian Author. Reading his books has opened my perception in so many ways. His books has taught me to not ignore spiritual warfare.
This is just a few but know there are many authors anointed by God you can gain perceptive, knowledge, and encouragement from to continue the battle.
Not all of these books are specifically about spiritual warfare but they will give you a new understanding to many things that are in accordance to it.
I also find it to be beneficial to write your prayers, dreams, visions, and conversations you have with the Lord in a journal. This brings intimacy to you and our Father. Writing will help encourage you to keep hearing from the Lord which is ultimately a foundation to defeating the enemy.
Obedience to His command.
Just to see how real warfare is and how true listening to God’s command is to defeating the enemy I highly encourage you to read these scriptures then to read the stories with the scriptures.
The stories will give you more insight, knowledge, and understanding to all that God was doing and how He was actually leading each situation thoroughly.

“Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” – Eph 6:11-17
That is my favorite, I am currently in a spiritual war with the devil and his minions. The Lord is with me and I know I have already succeeded. Jesus Christ bought me with his blood and the devil did not, so he can never claim me. Thank you so much for these wonderful verses, will definitely meditate on them.

Amen and amen. This was very well written. I am also thankful of the reminder that spiritual warfare can sometimes come from ourselves and consequences of our actions. But I wholeheartedly agree with you that our answers are found by turning to our Father and His word. Thank you!
